Hi, I'm currently searching for a one or two bedroomed flat for me and my girlfriend. I have noticed that most rents seem to go up when you say your a three.
Is it wrong of me to say I am looking alone, can I be caught out, and is it illegal?

Answer: You should be square-dealing. They shouldn't charge more unless water, heat and electricity is included although it has been proven that two people don't use that much more.
Ask them why.

Should I go to an agent?

Or are classifieds in newspapers the best way to find a flat?

Answer: Depends on what your priorities for the belongings are. Gumtree and the classified sections will be the cheapest but will involve by far the most research and leg work. Benefit you need to be careful as there are no controls on who advertises there. For

I am emotional for some years at least, with my wife and a newborn baby. I would be looking for a 2 bedroom flat to rent, in a nice, unexcited place.
I am thinking to a budget in the £300 per week range.

Answer: Desirable to London! Your money goes further if you move further out in London. £300 per week should get you something decent and there are man areas for you to choose. I lean North of the River and you should maybe take alook at upmystreet.com for
