Watching UK news and can't infer from why who is elected London Mayor is headline news? I understand London is capital but there are loads of other cities up and down the woods who have mayors and lucky if they are mentioned in local news?

95% of the leisure the news seems to be about England and London
we almost never hear about Wales, Scotland, NI, IOM, channel islands etc
