Why Do You Have To Be Over 21 To Drive A London Taxi?

Why is it you have to be old over 21 to apply for a TFL PCO licence to drive a taxi or minicab/private hire non-compliance yet you can drive a London bus at 18 carrying 70 plus passengers?

Answer: Because of concerns of societal safety and standards of service, minicabs (also known as private hire vehicles (PHVs) ) became regulated.

When this happened PHV drivers working for London based operators had to prevail a PHV drivers license
 
 

Automatic Or Manual Transmission London Taxi?

Hi, i have passed the appreciation and now I need to get myself a london taxi although I am not sure weather to get an automatic or manual one. Are there any cabbies here that have any preference? Would disposition some opinions. thanks.

Answer: manuals demand clutches...

and autos dont....

and in stop start stop stop drag stop traffic, and auto is easier on the leg muscles, and they crawl nicely...

Is it loyal that London taxi drivers should keep the taxi clean "by law"?

I found the General Guidance of Hackney Transportation Law for London's Licensed Taxi Drivers, but I could not find it. So, maybe it is not a regulation?

Answer: Regulations submit:

The Proprietor of a hackney carriage shall "cause the fittings and furnishings generally to be kept in a clean condition, well maintained and in every way fit for public service"
 
 

Where Do I Find A Copy Of The London Taxi "Knowledge" Blue Book?

I am not interested in becoming a mavin taxi driver, but would like to learn some of the routes used by the professionals to move about London. I understand that all students get a "Titillating Book" from which to memorize 300-some "routes".

Answer: There are infact four BlueBooks that are tempered to when learning "the Knowledge". The first book contains 80 of the routes, with the other three containing the other routes and case test maps as used by the PCO.

I'm looking into becoming a london taxi driver, but to learn the so called "Experience" I only have one day a week free where I can learn it, is this enough time? Considering it takes about 2 years to learn the adeptness, but how many days is

Answer: you will be doing the expertise for 10 yrs at 1 day a week,you need to do your runs,call over etc at least 3-4 days a week.
it is a full every now job in itself learning the knowledge.
it is a hard slog but worth the graft.
