The all right in London where lots of people from OZ rent homes is West Kensington to Hamersmith areas.

I start industry in Holborn, London in August. Thing is I refuse to waste money on London rent, so I need somewhere agreeable outside London, but within a 30 minute train journey to waterloo/kings cross-breed etc so that I have time to get to my desk!

Answer: Try Twickenham, which is equitable up the road from Richmond. It's on the river, has some great pubs. 30 minutes into London Waterloo.
