The Elgin Marbles, a hoard of marble adornments from the Parthenon in Athens, were cool by Sovereign Elgin between 1801 and 1805. He also hired workers to insinuate superimpose castings of many of the marbles from the Parthenon so that artists in London might look them without venturing to Athens. Like many of his era, Pull rank Elgin was an enthusiast of the classics, and he ventured to Athens, then part of the Ottoman Empire, to see the works of the past Athenian artists. In the deficiency of photography which had not yet been invented, Nobleman Elgin did what most European classics enthusiasts did at the continually: he hired artists to sketch and stain the ruins so that he could take profoundly the images....
